The kings of Bad Honnef

What do Peer Steinbrück, Maybritt Illner, Jean-Claude Juncker, Konrad Beikircher and Hans-Dietrich Genscher have in common? In addition to numerous other prominent figures, they were the “Aalkönig“ (“Eel King“) or “Aalkönigin“ (“Eel Queen“) of Bad Honnef at one point. And they left their traces in the spa town. In the arcades between the „“Kurhaus“ and the bordering hotel, you will find signs on the pillars informing you about the well-known honorary guests of the “Aalkönig“ Committee. And embedded in the floor are plaques with the handprints of the political, media and theater celebrities who were awarded the title of honor. Once a year, the Committee organizes a festive dinner in the “Kursaal“ to honor the new “Aalkönig“. The proceeds and other donations are used to support projects for the prevention of violence among youth and for integration work.
